The rugs are hand knotted in the finest New Zealand wool. The yarn is 3-ply twisted and is coloured using only Swiss or German made dyes. Each rug is individually handtufted on a cotton ground cloth which is pre-stretched on a tufting frame. When tufting is completed, another layer of cotton canvas is applied to the back secured with natural latex. After being left to dry out naturally, the rugs are removed from the frame after which the edges are securely bound. They then go through a thorough manual process of removing excess yarn and cutting the fibres to even length before finally, in most cases, being expertly handcarved to highlight the pattern and colour separation.
